Elesa Indicators – a story of quality

    Date:

Contact details Daniel Hodson, Tel: 01526 322670, marketing@elesa.co.uk

Indicators were the basis of Elesa in the UK with the transition of Clayton Instruments to Elesa Clayton and then Elesa UK. The original analogue instruments – whose derivatives are still available – were high quality, craftsman-engineered for the many industries using rollers in their processing machinery. Accuracy of these machines was – and still is – of the highest importance, where very thin material sheets of paper, fabric, metal, plastic etc. are concerned.

Generally, these gauges are of the gravity or positive drive type – they are perfectly complimented by the Elesa range of handwheels and dial knobs. The exceptional design style of these high-quality mouldings perfectly compliment the accuracy of those original Clayton instruments and their flexible approach which enables customer requirements to be incorporated.

Gravity and Positive drive movements were joined by Direct Drive digital box style indicators.

Like all Elesa Clayton units these are focused on the quality aspects of function, form, comfort, safety and aesthetics, coupled with robustness, longevity, appropriateness to application, so offering the best in value.

Machinery, and of course production requirements, continue to move on and Elesa have explored these new needs with the market over recent years – culminating in the electronically focused digital indicators which enabled radio communication between devices and a central control module.

Alongside the electronic revolution and its networking outcome, Elesa have seen the need for position indicators to be used in measurement of linear and angular movements as well as regulation of flows, capacities, strokes or variable speed drives. The electronic and networking facilities in-built in Elesa’s new generation of indicators enable time-saving, enhanced accuracy of resetting/adjustment leading to less downtime with higher quality product outcomes.

As ever, Elesa are focused on quality reflecting a meeting of minds from many years ago when Elesa and Clayton originally got together.

Elesa levelling feet match industrial applications and aggressive environments

Elesa, as market leading manufacturers in high quality levelling feet, are delighted to offer units for all industrial purposes from simple desks and workstations to vibration damping and non-slip for heavy machines, food industry and biohazard applications.

At the light duty end of the spectrum the LX series are designed with adjustment moulded into the foot. They are suited to application on instrumentation housings, office desking, bench top equipment, portable stands and displays or similar.

For more demanding situations some machine feet have a base with special shape or design that allows fixing to the ground. This solution is suitable when you need to give more stability to the equipment. This type of machine levelling feet are available with or without no-slip disk NBR rubber applied to the base which ensures a perfect anchoring, preventing separation even in case of shocks during transport or adhesion to the floor.

LW.A vibration damping units from Elesa feature natural rubber damping pads built into an adjustable levelling foot design. They have been designed to damp vibrations, shocks and noise from moving components or non-balanced masses such as rotating machines. This vibration can cause significant detrimental effects on operator health as well as malfunctioning/reduction-in-lifespan of the machine or adjacent equipment.

“Active” machine isolation is described as being for vibration producing equipment such as presses, machine tools, transfer equipment etc. to prevent vibration being transmitted away from the source. In addition, they are of value in a passive role when mounted on equipment that might be adversely affected by external vibration, such as quality testing, measuring or performance assessment equipment. This “bi-directional” isolation is an important feature of the LW.A levelling elements and is often a feature in the same location.

The LMRS levelling feet from Elesa are manufactured in stainless steel (AISI 303/304) and designed to shed liquids downward. The low sulphur content of materials used in the LMRS and design features such as convex base with sleeved bolt are particularly significant to the food industry. For this reason, an adjustable sleeve covers the threaded stem, and other sharp edges and corners have been to a large extent avoided. This increases the efficiency of power cleaning measures in messy environments such as food processing, abattoirs and other hygiene sensitive applications.

Elesa’s LM.F-HD-SST series of levelling feet in stainless steel with permanent floor mounting facility are now EHEDG certified (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group). This means that they offer significant advantages in improved hygiene and reduced cleaning time (and resources). Thereby enhancing the environment of industrial areas such as in food production, pharmaceutical, paint and dye manufacture and similar, as well as saving on use of cleaning materials and time taken in wash-down cycles.

For example, there can be up to 25% time saving with less consumption of water, energy and cleaning agents, by use of specific design criteria with high grade stainless steel and FDA/EU compliant plastics.

Elesa explain that in the food industry, medical technology and the pharmaceutical industry, product safety and consumer protection are becoming increasingly important. Due to their specific properties, standard parts in hygienic design can assist the production process in these sensitive areas, and facilitate the manufacture of products with a long shelf life, which are free from preservatives.

New Elesa ZCR and ZCL modular gear racks and spur gears

Elesa ZCR and ZCL rack and spur gear transmission elements are ideal for applications where, in addition to mechanical resistance, even quiet operations are required, with no need for lubrication maintenance.

Over the last few decades, the evolution in engineering plastics and technopolymers has led to the availability of spur gears in plastic material featuring high mechanical strengths. In addition, these plastics offer resistance to corrosion and chemical agents, as well as high resistance to torsion and good tensile strength. They also provide significant noise reduction and a low friction coefficient, which allows the use of gears even in sectors where lubrication is not recommended or is even prohibited.

The lightness of these components widens their range of application covering packaging, industrial cleaning, processing of materials, food industry, printing industry, construction of machinery for agriculture, household appliances etc. They are particularly valuable for mobile or hand held devices where ease of movement is required.

Simplicity, light weight, easy assembly, and easy alignment of these gear mechanisms enable users to fabricate simple motion gears and rack and pinion systems for operation of machines and for instrumentation applications. They are suitable for use in industrial, laboratory equipment – or for initial prototyping of equipment which is substantial enough for long-term use.

The new Elesa ZCR and ZCL modular gear racks and spur gears provide an easy to install package of quiet, lightweight, lubrication free and soft feel drives. Typically, they find application in manufacturing workstations, transfer operations, linear motion of sensors and instrumentation - also inspection systems, lifting of platforms and operating elements, positioning and measuring or other situations where quick linear movement is required.

EPR-PF handles from Elesa save Aquaflame time and money – and ease production issues

    Date:

Contact details Daniel Hodson, marketing@elesa.co.uk. Tel: 01526 322670

Aquaflame Systems provide solutions for micro soldering and acrylic flame polishing through a range of products. The Aquaflame range are high performance gas-generating units, producing a high temperature flame – in the range 1200-3300°C.

Employed extensively in the jewellery, dental and other technical manufacturing industries, the Aquaflame range provides solutions for individual traders and small retailers through to larger manufacturers.

As a side issue to current Brexit concerns, and as an integral part of recent production re-structuring, the team at Aquaflame found they had supply problems with simple carry handles needed for their equipment, which can weigh up to 30kg. At the same time, they identified case alignment problems associated with handle fitment in conflict with the internal assembly – identified as taking an extra 15 minutes per unit.

Explained MD Barry Peck “We found assembly and supply problems traced back to a simple handle and could not resolve these to our satisfaction so we looked around for a UK based company with a standard ex-stock product at a competitive price. Fortunately, we found Elesa whose sales engineer called round quickly and offered a simple low-cost solution to our handle problems, which saved us money on each machine.”

The Elesa EPR-PF is a robust clip-in handle in glass reinforced polyamide which Aquaflame can leave to the final stage of assembly prior to packaging. They are manufactured by Elesa at their own production facility as part of a continuing commitment to a high quality/design ethos which controls production in house so far as possible, eliminating problems often encountered with non-manufacturing suppliers. Thus ensuring reliable worldwide stock in more than 60 countries worldwide, through 12 subsidiaries and qualified distributors in the major industrialised countries.

Further information on the EPR-PF clip-in handle from Elesa is available at www.elesa.com/en/elesab2bstoreuk/Handles--Flush-pull-handles--EPR-PF or follow them on twitter: www.twitter.com/ElesaUK.

Elesa roller tracks make moving the load easy

    Date:

    Contact details Daniel Hodson, 01526 322670, marketing@elesa.co.uk

The Elesa ELEROLL package of rollers and ball transfer modules is designed to greatly simplify installation and use of this type of widely used conveyor system. The modular ELEROLL roller conveyors allow easy and quick joining of units to create loading and unloading areas in the construction of machines, storage and retrieval systems or packaging machines. The main components of the roller conveyors are constituted by sliding elements, which are either rollers or balls, for bi-directional or multi-directional (omni-directional) movement of heavy parts, packages or sheet materials.

Elesa’s worldwide supply chain of high-quality industrial components is typified by the ingenious design of the ELEROLL modules.

The roller elements, suitably fixed inside the RLT-AL aluminium profiles, create modular roller tracks for passive handling (both as sliding or containing surfaces), suitable for several applications in different fields: feeding and discharging benches in construction machinery, storage and picking systems, packaging machinery, etc.

RLT-U-PA roller elements are also suitable for handling heavy packages, RLT-U-TPU roller elements, with rollers in anti-scratch material, allow the handling of delicate materials such as glass and wood.

The low friction coefficient between the roller and the roller holder eliminates the need for lubrication maintenance – while the particular section of RLT-AL profile, allows the snap-in assembly of the roller elements into the profile without the need for screws or other fasteners. Therefore, the roller elements may be quickly and easily removed and replaced, without disassembling the entire roller track.

The roller elements may be divided between individual wheels, so as to create roller tracks of precisely the required length.

Elesa hygienic knobs and handles in stainless steel

The Elesa series of hygienic knobs and handles in stainless steel with FDA compliant sealing compliment their established adjustable levelling feet to complete a series ideally suited to medical, pharmaceutical, food processing and related industrial applications. In fact, all those messy situations where frequent aggressive cleaning is required to prevent the build-up of bacteria and dirt in general.

These Elesa clamping knobs, grip knobs, lobe knobs, grab/bridge handles with matching finger-operated screws and nuts exemplify best practice in hygienic design principles. Combining as they do finishes in AISI 316L, either matte sandblasted or mirror polished stainless steel, together with H-NBR blue FDA Compliant seals.

Elesa’s expertise in hygienic design stems from their long history of excellence in the manufacture of industrial components, specifically maximum hygiene is a fundamental requirement, not only where food is produced. Hygiene also plays an increasing role in other industrial areas, from the pharmaceutical industry to the manufacture of paints and dyes. Nowadays, a major issue is the manufacture of products without added preservatives or with as few added preservatives as possible, while still achieving a long shelf life. However, this can only be achieved in a production environment in which all risks of contamination with microorganisms or dirt are excluded. For plant construction, this means that all components, elements, as well as surfaces, must be designed accordingly. Contaminants must not accumulate and must be easy to remove.

New Standard Components – modular Racks and Spur gears from Elesa

The new ZCR and ZCL modular gear racks and spur gears provide an easy to install package of quiet, lightweight, lubrication free and soft feel rack and pinion gear drives for adjustment of equipment or positioning of workpieces. Typically they are suitable for assembly equipment, production workstations, instrumentation, inspection systems or other situations where quick linear movement is required.

Over the last few decades, the evolution in engineering plastics and technopolymers has led to the availability of spur gears in plastic material featuring high mechanical strengths in addition to providing all the advantages of plastic such as resistance to corrosion and chemical agents, also high resistance to torsion and good tensile strength, significant noise reduction and a low friction coefficient, which allows the use of gears even in sectors where lubrication is not recommended or even prohibited.

Modular lengths of toothed track fit together in 1m to 4m lengths (or special lengths on request) to provide comfortable operation – compared to metal equivalents, giving a soft feel since the glass reinforced technopolymer provides a natural cushioning effect which reduces harshness and backlash.

Elesa transmission elements can be coupled to both technopolymer and metal gears. This is an excellent solution for all those applications where it is necessary to obtain a faster dissipation of the heat accumulated during the operation.

For heavy duty applications racks are available with steel core, spur gears are provided with plain pass-through mounting holes or undrilled hubs.

Elesa at the Advanced Engineering Exhibition, NEC Birmingham, 31st October – 1st November 2018, Stand No. A16

    Date:

    Location: NEC

The Elesa stand at this year’s Advanced Engineering Exhibition focuses on specialist equipment and design considerations. These include their new wireless position indicators and hygienic design levelling feet, as well as their ELECOLORS* program for matching components to customer colour schemes.

The new Elesa DD52R-E-RF is a wireless spindle positioning system, designed for an efficient manual spindle positioning, consists of UC-RF control unit and, up to 36 electronic position indicators DD52R-E-RF (Elesa Patent).

Most often, machine setup is performed manually by means of traditional mechanical indicators coupled with handwheels or crank handles, following a specific list of set-up parameters.

The new electronic position indicators DD52R-E-RF are networked to UCRF control unit via radio frequency (RF). This system is particularly suitable for applications that require frequent format changes, facilitating the correct adjustment of the target/current position of the machine parts, also representing a safety system. PLC control does not allow the machine to start the production cycle, thus avoiding production issues.

The new levelling feet series Hygienic Design (LM-HD-SST, LM.F-HDSST) including screws and nuts (NTHD-SST) are suitable for environments where a high degree of hygiene management is required and they are certified 3-A by Sanitary Standard, Inc. that promotes food safety and public health.

Furthermore, the execution with holes for ground mounting is certified according to the EHEDG guidelines (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group).

Among its over 40,000 product codes available in stock, Elesa offers an extensive selection of standard components, in the ELECOLORS* chromatic range: orange, grey, yellow, blue, red and black.

Livelier colours than the traditional grey and green "Reseda", typical of the mechanical industries of the past, these are now accepted and requested by a growing number of sectors. The reasons behind this new market requirement come from an aesthetics renewal process of machine tools and equipment that has transformed the design and requirements (not only technical) of the components.

Wireless spindle positioning system from Elesa speeds accurate machine set up

The Elesa wireless spindle positioning system enables faster and more reliable machine set up by use of a wireless connected profile controller, which displays the initial set up values on each of up to 36 electronic position indicators. The operator can simply choose the appropriate menu then quickly re-set each spindle to its correct start position and the machine is “good to go”. This saves time and takes out much of the possibility of human error.

Elesa DD52R-E-RF position indicators are networked to the UC-RF control unit by radio connection thus enabling an easy and quick installation. Current and target positions are transmitted by RF to and from the control unit, facilitating rapid machine set up.

The system consequently saves time during the format alignment process. Once the set up profile has been called up by the PLC, the control unit UC-RF transmits the target position to each DD52R-E-RF position indicator. The current/target position is displayed on the LCD of the DD52R-E-RF. The operator manually sets the position of the spindles following the arrow displayed on the LCD (clockwise/counter-clockwise rotation). Once all the spindles are correctly set, the UC-RF control unit communicates to the PLC of the machine that the setup has been completed - the system prevents the start of the machine until the set-up has been completed, for safety reasons and to prevent loss of production from incorrect settings.

The UC-RF controller can network with up to 36 position indicators and is compatible with PLC Interfaces: RS232, RS485, Ethernet/IP, Profibus and Modbus. The DD52R-E-RF (IP67) position indicator 6 digit display mode can be selected by the operator.

Elesa interlocked hinge gets it all wrapped up with TRAKRAP

    Date:

Contact details Daniel Hodson, Tel 01526 322670, sales@elesa.co.uk

The team at TRAKRAP produce low waste transit wrapping systems for food and related products. As long-term customers of Elesa for a wide variety of equipment components, they use standard hinges and handles in their machine protection enclosures. So it was fortuitous that visiting an Elesa exhibition stand, one of the TRAKRAP engineers came across their ingenious CFSW combined hinge and electrical cut-off switch for just this situation.

Alan Read – Head of Engineering at TRAKRAP – explained “we are constantly developing our machines – looking to ensure good cost-effective manufacture and especially to manage low maintenance costs – as our machine leasing programme incorporates a long-term maintenance plan. Finding the Elesa CFSW hinge-cut-off has helped simplify our machine guarding system by eliminating the need for a separate bracket and switch, and delivered a significant cost saving in both components and fitting times in the process.”

TRAKRAP are especially conscious of waste, recycling and use of resources in their FMCG packaging marketplace where they are constantly seeking to minimize use of packaging materials such as cardboard and plastic wrap for their transit packs. Also they seek to reduce handling time in assembling and breaking down of these packs, so that the individual cartons may be placed quickly on store shelves while providing good stability in palleting and transit.

TRAKRAP machines are often used in areas associated with regular wash-down cycles so the CFSW is highly suitable, offering IP67 dust and water protection.

The CFSW is double insulated and approved by IMQ CA02.04800 in compliance with EN 60947-1/2007 + EN 60947-5-1:2004 + A1/2009. Low voltage control auxiliaries. Approved by UL: E360222.l. It is available with different combinations of contacts with positive opening (2NO+2NC, 1NO+3NC etc.). These robust units are tested to a B10d value of 2,000,000, are totally tamper-proof, and may be quickly and easily installed. The CFSW integrated cut-off hinge provides a simple, reliable and elegant solution to this personnel or equipment safety issue.

Further information on the CFSW hinge from Elesa can be found at www.elesa.com/en/elesab2bstoreuk/Hinges-and-connections--Hinges-with-built-in-safety-switch--CFSW or follow them on twitter: www.twitter.com/ElesaUK.

    Elesa electrical machine safety products

The recently introduced CFSW hinges with built-in safety switch and the RH-FG16 series of tubular handles, also with built-in safety switch, highlight a significant development for standard component manufacturers Elesa. These products reflect the increasing need for electrical machine protection devices in association with safety screens and cages or control enclosures and cabinets. In this situation they ensure that dangerous machinery or other equipment is neutralized when the access door is opened – so providing a vital safety aspect for operator and service personnel.

Elesa gives customers a choice – to install the safety cut-off as part of a door hinge or integrated with a standard handle installation.

No longer do installers of machines, conveyors or other industrial equipment need to add an extra push button with mounting box and extra wiring. Now installers can make use of a safety cut-off built in to the guard or housing with corresponding savings in equipment and fitting costs.

Standard machine elements from Elesa on show at MACH Exhibition, 9th - 13th April 2018

    Date:

The extensive Elesa range of standard machine elements is designed around the needs of manufacturing in all industry sectors, many of which will be on display at the 2018 MACH Exhibition, taking place on 9th – 13th April at NEC Birmingham.

Featured on the Elesa stand – Hall 6, No. 72 - will be their IP65-7 direct dial digital position indicators with electronic mechanism for easy set up and readout.

These are coupled with the Elesa wireless spindle positioning system which enables faster and more reliable machine set up by use of a wireless connected profile controller, which displays the initial set up values on each of up to 36 electronic position indicators. The operator can simply choose the appropriate menu then quickly re-set each spindle to its correct start position and the machine is “good to go”. This saves time and takes out much of the possibility of human error.

The Elesa LMHD hygienic levelling feet (EHEDG certified) for use in bio-hazard areas such as food processing or other hygiene sensitive areas, feature mounting holes which provide rugged adjustable equipment mounting and facilitate reduced cleaning work – which can be up to 25% of the production time. Thus leaving more time available for production, with less use of resources such as fresh water, energy and cleaning agents, also with less waste water to process, and so lower total costs.

A wide range of industrial levelling feet complement the needs of equipment manufacturers, many are in stainless steel for heavy duty application and special designs with vibration damping pads to prolong equipment life or for use on conveyor systems.

The Elesa IP67 CFSW safety switch and hinge unit also on display facilitates safe operation of access panels and control equipment.

Elesa machine safety components – hinges, handles and handwheels

    Date:

As market leaders in the area of standard industrial components, Elesa have an extensive portfolio of safety related items. Major concerns over machine cut-off related to opening of control cabinets, guarding barriers or service panels are addressed by products such as the CFSW plastic hinges with built-in multiple switch – this enables electrical shut-off of equipment where the door/panel is opened where for example use of a handle based mechanism is not desirable.

The CFSW is double insulated and approved by IMQ CA02.04800 in compliance with EN 60947-1/2007 + EN 60947-5-1:2004 + A1/2009. Low voltage control auxiliaries. Approved by UL: E360222.l. These robust units are tested to a B10d value of 2,000,000, are totally tamper-proof, and may be quickly and easily installed.

In other situations the Elesa EBR-CH bridge pull handle with integral lock offers a simple way of latching sliding doors with key lock without the need for installation of separate lock and grab handle.

A long recognized area of safety concern is that of shaft mounted revolving handwheels for machines. In this case the Elesa solid handwheel VD.FP+I+ST provides the assurance of a free spinning de-clutched mechanism until the operator pulls the handwheel to engage drive. Safety handwheels are designed in accordance with accident prevention rules: in case of push or accidental pressure when the machine is operating, the handwheel is disengaged and is in the rest position. Only by "Pulling" the handwheel parallel to the axis can the shaft operate. The handwheel returns automatically to its rest position when it is released after the operation.

These handwheels can be supplied with "Push-coupling". By inserting the bushing the other way round, the handwheel operates opposite to the standard way.

Elesa Ergostyle® brings comfort and style to standard machine elements

    Date:

With machine components, as with much else, “form follows function” – in which case the Elesa Ergostyle® range of standard operating elements must work really very well indeed. In fact of course with their well-known care over operator comfort and safety, Elesa have combined a bit of Italian flair in design which makes any machine look special.

The expected parameters of precision, grip and strength all compliment today’s range of hi-tech, hi-precision manufacturing machinery. This includes adjustable and lever handles, handwheels, clamp handles, crank handles, pull handles, and handles for special applications such as instruments and desktop equipment.

Notable in the Ergostyle® range are their EMW Monospoke handwheels in glass fibre reinforced polypropylene technopolymer with soft-touch or fold-away safety handles. The ERW adjustable handles and ERFW lever handles are especially useful where height restrictions determine the need for a flat lever rather than an inclined version. They are capable of maintaining performance in repetitive clamping situations with very high frequency. The sister product ERX-CR is a chrome plated version of the push-button clamping handle which has an especially striking “techno” look while the ERFW+I Crank handles provide an easy way to wind shafts and gauges with fingertip control.

The Ergostyle® range encompasses all areas of industrial equipment which naturally includes machine guarding and control systems where their EBR-PN handle with pneumatic valve offers safety machine shut-off at the point of access.

Even tube supports are catered for with Elesa’s NIL Ribbed Tube End Plugs in polyethylene black or grey to suit black steel or solid anodised aluminium tube.

    Vibration-damping mounting elements from Elesa

    Date:

Vibration damping elements in rubber bonded with steel/stainless steel, such as the Elesa DVE series are much used for applications with rotary machines. They are suited to equipment that does not present big dynamic imbalances, but where a degree of elasticity is required both vertically and transversely.

DVE rubber damping mounts are therefore very suitable for use with compressors, fans, vibrating feeders, rotary pumps or electric motors where vibration can cause malfunctioning and reduction of the machine lifespan and/or that of the adjacent equipment. They are important in the reduction of noise and of potential damage to the health of nearby personnel.

The Elesa DVE series features a tapped circular boss with oval or square mounting plate in zinc plated steel, AISI 304 or 316 stainless. Standard specification is black natural rubber to Shore 40 and 60 for loads of from 62.5 N up to 20812 N.

Extensive selection of standard components from Elesa in ELECOLORS

    Date:

ELESA offers an extensive selection of standard components in the ELECOLORS* chromatic range: orange, grey, yellow, blue, red and black.

In addition to the award-winning elements of the Ergostyle line, Elesa offers many other standard components to meet the most common manoeuvring and clamping operations with coloured inserts or fully coloured. A range of products featuring different shapes, surface finishing and colours designed to perfectly fit the equipment they are destined for.

Thanks to Elesa's commitment to offer the highest quality standards also in terms of aesthetics, colours are controlled with the colorimetric spectrodensitometers to ensure maximum colour consistency and repeatability, both during production and over the entire lifecycle of the components.

In the 1990s, Elesa presented for the first time a line of standard components, the Ergostyle line. Characterised by elegant and ergonomic lines, Ergostyle introduces a new language for both shape and chromatic range, in six different colours. If ergonomics and design of Elesa products are distinctive features, colour is an additional option. The use of colour offers a perfect aesthetic compatibility between the components and the machines on which they are installed, enhancing the perception of their value and quality. Furthermore, colour allows a better differentiation of different machine functions, contributing to the benefit of the safety.

Bridge handle front fastening kit from Elesa

    Date:

Bridge/pull handles are such widely used items in industry that we sometimes need to modify the fixing – for example where a machine handle cannot be fitted from the rear or where the selected handle is just too short to fit across mounting points. This is a fitment problem which can occur with many handles for instruments, machines, protection panels and other specialist applications on industrial equipment.

In this situation Elesa’s solution of a special fastening kit rapidly resolves the problem. So for rear mounted grab handles this kit is a simple solution which enables front mounting (where only a rear mounting handle is available) and extends the handle to fit wider mounting points where necessary.

This kit is applicable for plastic and metal handles from the Elesa range such as those in duroplast, technopolymer or aluminium. Specialist Elesa handles also include heat insulated and high temperature tolerant materials as well as those available in RAL colours of black, white, orange, grey, yellow, blue and red.

Elesa breather caps and level indicators hit the mark for Sarum Hydraulics Micropac hand pumps

    Date:

Elesa filler breathers and level indicators have been an important part of specialist hydraulic hand pumps, pressure testing units and dispensing equipment from Sarum Hydraulics for 30 years. This is a long term relationship based on quality components, leading design style and reliability of supply, which has enabled Sarum Hydraulics to produce equipment for a wide range of applications requiring very reliable high performance actuation, pressure testing and system charging pumps such as their Micropac hand pump series.

These are pumps which are likely to find themselves as operationally critical in especially arduous conditions such as: marine on-board, from yachts to lifeboats, ferries, oil rigs and gas platforms, as well as process plants, pumping sites and food processing, medical lifting equipment and for use on construction sites. Aerospace/Defence – helicopter and aircraft service and maintenance are also important environments.

At a time when most manufacturers were still using plated carbon steel components, Sarum Hydraulics saw the chance to use the Elesa innovative moulded polymer filler breather caps across their range of high grade stainless steel hydraulic pumping products.

Explained Sarum Hydraulics Managing Director John Foster “Elesa has proven a great supplier partnership. Within the filler breather range, we needed a high quality low corrosion polymer breather cap that offers easy dipstick operation, non-splash fill and a pressurised option. Caps and level indicators from Elesa look the part and can be tailored to our exact needs. We can forget onerous and costly swapping between port sizes on fabricated reservoirs. For us, the Elesa range has proven to be seamless.”

Sarum Hydraulics has standardised on the safe-fill SFP filler breather allowing easy addition of the FRF basket, dipsticks and the SFW pressurised cap. This combination prevents backsplash and ingress of foreign material. For level indication, the HCX INOX liquid level sight gauge with transparent sight tube and stainless steel fittings at 127mm or 254mm centres are a robust choice.  Further information regarding Elesa hydraulic accessories may be found at: www.elesa.com/en/elesab2bstoreuk/accessories-for-hydraulic-systems

Profile Compatible interlock hinges, panel support clamps, hinges, corner brackets and handles for Safety Workstations from Elesa

    Date:

The Elesa range of high performing machine guard safety components is designed for compatibility with the most common aluminium profile systems used for machine guarding, equipment mounting and workstation construction.

Elesa have a focus on those items which most readily enable the quick construction of safety panel systems. This includes their CFSW hinges with built-in multiple safety switch, the PC Panel Clamp, CFI double hinges and SQT corner angle brackets. They are complimented by the ESP guard safety handles which are ideal for operation of sliding or hinged doors.

In constructing a safety housing with aluminium profile an important consideration is often the use of an electrically interlocked protective device to cut off power to the equipment in the event of accidental door opening. The Elesa CFSW hinge is a simple and convenient way to achieve this – it offers an IP67 sealed internal switch with 180° opening and mounting centres at 42mm in order to align correctly with the frame.

Mounting of panels is made simple with the PC panel support clamp designed to sit comfortably inside the frame and carry standard panels from 3.1mm up to 8.0mm.

Often multiple hinging is required for adjacent panels on a standard framework and this can be achieved with the CFI double hinge in glass reinforced polyamide. These are complimented with SQT corner support brackets which add rigidity to the frame and may be fitted with stylish dust caps to complete their installation.

For operation of doors on workstation cubicles the ESP series handles have been designed to fit machine guards or automation systems with double-leaf doors where the closed design of the handle represents a safety feature for the operator’s fingers. In addition, the coloured cover improves the visibility of the handle and offers the possibility of product customization.

These 5 core components are matched with adjustable rod mounting systems for sensors and instrumentation such as cameras and counters.

Magnets from Elesa – temporary fixings for instruments to signage

    Date:

Elesa permanent magnets offer a simple way of providing temporary fixing for workpieces, instruments, gauges, covers, doors, signs or drawers. They offer a range of closure from low to extremely high adhesive force in a very small footprint – giving easy manual placement or concealed closure if required. Temporary fixing with high power magnets can provide permanent solutions, quickly adjusted or removed completely.

For example, Elesa’s range of high quality permanent magnets in sintered hard ferrite, Aluminium nickel cobalt (AINiCo), Samarium cobalt (SmCo) and Neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) are structured to have one adhesive surface only with poles optimized and arranged in such a way that the whole magnetic energy is focused on the adhesive surface. The effect in the area of the magnetic field is limited by a shielded system, avoiding the magnetization of the surrounding objects.
Neodymium magnets are ideal for location and temporary fixing of workpieces or panels or for sensor holding, e.g. on conveyors or other machinery. Moving down the scale applications can be as varied as supermarket labelling, locating presentation materials, white boards, cabinet door closure or magnetic filtration, e.g. of metal particles in engine sumps or in machinery and equipment.
These high quality permanent magnets are available in flat format with or without, steel or stainless steel housings in lacquer or thermoplastic coating and in cylinder format with brass housed sandwich configuration. U Magnets and cylinder magnets in red lacquer with pass-through facility are also part of the standard series.

Vibration damping from Elesa – inside and out

    Date:

Whenever machines and equipment vibrate – whether they be motor driven or conveyors for fragile assemblies, then the Elesa range of vibration damping elements can serve to cushion the vibrational energy. This leads to greater operator comfort, greater accuracy, reduced damage and longer lifetimes with reduced maintenance.

Elesa’s DVA range is formed in natural rubber in cylindrical and conical formats based on zinc/steel and AISI 304 stainless mounts with male or female attachments. They have been designed to damp vibrations, shocks and noises produced by moving bodies or vibrating masses which can cause malfunctioning and reduction of the machine lifespan and/or of the adjacent equipment, or even operator damage to health. The DVA range is available in black natural rubber to standard hardness 55 Shore A, as well as 40 Shore A or 70 Shore A to custom specifications.

LM and LW series vibration damping levelling feet address vibrational problems by isolating sensitive equipment from outside sources – or by reducing energy transfer originating from unbalanced rotational equipment – perhaps in co-operation with internal damping elements such as the DVA series.Other applications include mounting of impact machines or equipment with two-way movement, e.g. on reversible slide mechanisms. The LM and LW series feature a natural rubber foot base in either steel or stainless steel adjustable levelling feet.

Elesa Standard Machining Service saves time, eliminates waste, cuts costs

    Date:

Elesa (UK) Ltd offer a fast turn-around machining service for their standard machine elements such as handwheels (2, 3, 4 spoke and solid), also crank handles, clamping knobs with bored insert, as well as 3 arm lobe knobs and tri-lobe knobs which ensures quick and correct fitment to the operating shaft.

The service uses pre-set machining jigs, fixtures and tooling so saves internal time and program disruption costs, as well as ensuring that any mistakes are at no cost to the customer. This simplifies the production process for standard secondary operations such as drill and tap or bore and ream, e.g. to H7 tolerance. The service is applicable to plastic moulded items with insert, or solid, e.g. aluminium or stainless steel which require a keyway, cross-drill and pin or specialist machining such as undercuts or partial threads. There is no minimum quantity (Elesa can do 1 off if required) on standard components and can also apply to outright customised solutions from the Elesa factory in larger quantities.Consequently, customers receive full machined components, production ready “out of the box” ready to fit, so saving the time taken programming in-house work or sending for outside machining. This unusual service is seen as part of the Elesa commitment to their customers saving time, saving money and ensuring guaranteed quality through the supply/production chain. Flush pull handles from Elesa save time and money on assembly of sheet metal lift-off panels and doors

    Date:

The newly announced Elesa PR-CH flush pull handles save time and money on assembly of the sheet metal lift-off panels and doors commonly used on machinery of many types to cover equipment as a protective element. They are suited for machine access panels and guarding – also for maintenance doors covering internal mechanisms or electrics – so preventing unauthorised personal interaction with dangerous moving parts or electrical systems.

The traditional configuration would involve two handles and one or two quarter-turn locks – whereas Elesa’s new PR-CH design incorporates a quarter-turn lock/latch into the handle which has a quick snap-in assembly feature. This greatly simplifies installation as the separate quarter-turn locks are no longer required and their time consuming fixing can be eliminated, saving on installation costs as well as purchase of separate components.

Panel Support Clamp from Elesa (UK) is judged “Most Innovative Auxiliary Equipment” at 2014 PPMA Awards

    Date:

Elesa (UK)’s Panel Support Clamp was winner of the “Most Innovative Auxiliary Equipment” category at the PPMA Show 2014 Awards – presented by Rory Bremner.

The judges were impressed with Elesa’s panel support clamp, stating that “whilst it appears to be quite a modest item compared with some other submissions, it solves a lot of problems with the fitting – and especially the repair and retro-fit – of safety guards”. They also liked the fact that the clamp is applicable to guarding situations in all industries.

The Elesa Panel Support Clamp enables easy installation of protective panels onto industrial frames in steel or aluminium as desired. It incorporates full component retention when open, as required by Machine Directive (2006/42/CE), plus rubber grip pads to ensure stable location without drilling of the panel. Panel installation with PC Panel Support Clamps requires only that the correct spacer be fitted to match the relevant panel thickness and then the hex keyed screw (M6) be tightened up – the positive grip characteristics of the clamp plus its method of fixing then ensure a secure fixing of the guard panel. In what was an extremely competitive year, with the highest amount of entries since the Awards were introduced, to make the shortlist in itself was considered a huge achievement, so to win the category was a wonderful recognition for Elesa’s innovative design of standard machine components. High accuracy non-contact magnetic measuring position indicator from Elesa UK

    Date:

The new magnetic measurement system from Elesa utilises a magnetic band and non-contact sensor to provide highly accurate repeatable measurements for industries such as furniture/wood working, window frame assembly, steel frame builders etc. Typically the magnetic strip is fixed to the machine bed, e.g. cross cut saw or milling equipment, with the sensor and indicator mounted on the travelling feed part. The system can be set up for simple linear measurement in millimetres/inches and for angular measurement in degrees, with an accuracy of 0.1mm and repeatability of 0.01mm.
The Elesa system is characterised by extremely easy assembly, and by virtue of its simple accurate measurement it enables precise positioning alignment so reducing time by keeping machinery procedures to a minimum. The non-contact feature of the system means that it is not subject to wear and tear and therefore does not require maintenance. Similarly, without direct contact it is not affected by moisture, dust, oils and process residues – it is also insensitive to vibration for the same reason.
The position indicator MPI-15 may be set to read out measured values in absolute or incremental mode (to make relative measures within the measuring range), to select the unit of measure (mm, inches or degrees) and the counting direction and to set the offset values to compensate for tool wear. The MPI-15 incorporates a self-diagnostic battery check, sensor check and magnetic tape check. It is powered by an external battery 1.5 VDC and is equipped with a buffered memory during battery substitution. Battery life is 1 ½ year typical.
The magnetic band M-BAND-10 is easily assembled thanks to an adhesive backing and it is protected against mechanical damage by a stainless steel cover strip.

New ELEROLL modular roller track system from Elesa

    Date:

The novel ELEROLL modular roller track system from Elesa includes hard thermoplastic and soft-touch elastomer rollers plus omnidirectional ball rollers. It is unusual in that it is supplied as lengths of modular track which can be cut down or simply clipped together to suit the installation on-site.
ELEROLL is suitable for relatively light duty applications dependant on channel support – e.g. moving UPVC doors and windows, boxes of goods, luggage, container bins, sub-assemblies and finished products in Kanban systems and conveyor transfer layouts. Typically this may include manufacturing situations between machining stations and storage locations providing stock mobility to feeding and discharging benches in construction, machining, storage and picking systems, packaging machinery etc. for plate and panel handling.

The Elesa modular roller system is based on a standard aluminium channel extrusion which accepts pre-assembled modular roller sets of polyamide or thermoplastic polyurethane (soft touch for delicate materials such as glass and wood), plus ball element sets for omnidirectional movements. Roller sets come in standard 270mm lengths which clip into the aluminium channel. The roller unit may then be fitted with end caps to enable clip fitting of longer runs together with container edging/side guides, brake sections and end stops.

Standard channel is available in lengths from 270mm (1 module) to 2970mm (11 modules). Both the channel and modules are available from stock and may be trimmed to intermediate length enabling a custom unit to be rapidly produced and installed on-site.Roller sections may be mounted on their side with accessory brackets and supports so as to provide guidance where significant side loads are anticipated.

Elesa SLCK kit turns column level indicators electronic

    Date:

The popular Elesa HCK column level indicator series between 127mm and 508mm length can now be ordered or retro-fitted with an electronic sensing and control kit. The SLCK kit includes a magnetic float and two off sensors which fit behind the visual column – plus a pair of spacers to distance the unit away from the reservoir. An important feature to prevent ferromagnetic interference with the float.
Installation of the SLCK kit enables control of minimum and maximum level or operation of an alarm/light at the reference positions. This is considered of great interest for example in oil tanks where under or over fill may affect the associated equipment. On larger HCK columns it is also possible to install more than one kit to achieve automatic control of different levels within the system. Visual reading of the HCK scale is not affected by installation of the SLCK magnetic sensors which fit neatly behind the transparent polycarbonate tube and scale.

New Latch clamps with safety locks from Elesa UK

    Date:

Elesa MTL and MTB series latch clamps provide quick action adjustable clamping and release with an integral 2 stage button mechanism to prevent accidental opening by “knocking off” of the lever. This safety feature is positioned so that single hand operation is maintained.

MTL series are heavy duty units (up to 15000N holding force) in black oxide finished steel to facilitate welding in situ - MTB series are in black oxide steel or stainless steel offering forces up to 7500N. Both types are particularly suitable for equipment and applications subject to strong vibration stresses, where it is necessary to ensure secure clamping, including the prevention of accidental opening. Engaging and disengaging of the safety button and the clamp can be done together with a single handed action, leaving the other hand free to manipulate the workpiece. The length of the hook element in each case may be simply adjusted to suit the size of the clamped component or the clamping force desired. The MTB-SST in AISI 304 stainless steel is particularly suitable for use in those situations subject to specific hygiene regulations, such as food processing, or the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.   The complimentary MTR series are particularly appropriate for applications such as use on static or rotational moulds for plastic products, where fast clamp/release is important without the requirement for a safety lock.
